Nestled in Western Michigan just minutes from Lake Michigan and the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, On The Farm sits on farmland that has been in the family for over 80 years. Over the years this farm has seen a variety of crops planted on it, cherries, pickles, asparagus, field corn, soybeans and pumpkins are just a few. The farm is 160 acres made up of fields of crops and wooded land.
My Grandparents bought the farm and raised 6 boys here, my father has lived here since he was 3 years old. Immigrants from Sweden, my fathers parent’s first settled in Chicago, but soon realized they needed to get their boys to a smaller community and then moved to Mears, Michigan. The fields were first worked by horses, my Father bought his first John Deere in ‘59..
The farm still has some old older buildings, a blacksmith shop, smoke house, the old garage where everything broken was fixed and is now the home of the small shop On The Farm. The two beautiful barns on the property are the stars of the farm, each had its purpose. Both housed hay and straw and the larger barn also was the home to various farm animals.
